Pedestrian Killed, Driver Arrested after Hit-and-Run Accident on Maple Street

REDWOOD, CA (May 19, 2021)Carl Hofstetter was arrested Monday morning after a fatal hit-and-run on El Camino Real near Maple Street.

The incident took place in the 1600 block of El Camino Real, around 2:25 a.m., on May 10.

Police said Hofstetter was driving a white cargo van when he struck a male pedestrian in the area. Paramedics located the pedestrian unconscious with major injuries. He was later pronounced dead at the scene.

At this time, authorities have not released the identities of the victim involved.

In addition, the suspect fled the scene but police later spotted his white 2019 Ford van with front-end damage.

Later, Carl Hofstetter was arrested and booked into the San Mateo County Jail on suspicion of felony hit-and-run and vehicular homicide.

No other information has been released at this time. However, an active investigation to determine further details remains ongoing.
