A twentysomething man behind the wheel of a white BMW was hospitalized in critical condition after he was shot on the 10 freeway in Baldwin Park, according to the California Highway Patrol.

The shooting on the westbound 10 near Baldwin Park Boulevard happened about 12:30 a.m., CHP officials said. The victim was shot “multiple times,” said CHP Officer Officer Kerri Rivas.

After the car careened into the center divider and came to a stop …

… the car's sole passenger, a woman in her mid-20s, took off to look for help.

The man was taken to County-USC Medical Center in serious-but-stable condition.

The subsequent investigation prompted authorities to shut down the entire freeway until 5 a.m.

Officers say they have no suspect vehicle description. They want any possible witnesses to call the CHP at 800-TELL-CHP.
