A car plowed into a photographer and a model on a fashion shoot in downtown Los Angeles, killing the shooter and injuring the model, police said.

The collision happened at East Sixth and Mateo streets in Skid Row about 6 Monday night. Photographer Daniel Salazar Moreno, 31, was pronounced dead at the scene. Adriana Palacios, 22, who had modeling t-shirts, suffered broken bones and was hospitalized.

Despite his claims that “mechanical failure” caused the 1996 Honda Accord he was driving to veer out of control west on Sixth at a high speed, police arrested driver Moises Casillas, 26, on suspicion of vehicular manslaughter. He was being held in lieu of $100,000 bail.

Los Angeles police stated they would turn the case over to the District Attorney's office: Pursuing any charges against Casillas would be its call. Anyone who witnessed the collision or who has any background that could help investigators was asked to call traffic Det. Michael Keden at 213-927-1825.
