Even as the city of Los Angeles has been trying to keep film production here and Marvel Comics vowed to make its movies in the Southland, news this week reveals that Captain America: The First Avenger will be filmed in London. Bloody hell.

That's according to the Los Angeles Times, which reports that the film staring Chris Evans, Samuel L. Jackson and Hugo Weaving will begin shooting in London in July. It's scheduled to be released in July, 2011.

The paper states that Marvel studios decided to film in London because much of the movie's story is set there.

The Times states that Marvel's 2007 pledge to film its first four films in L.A. has largely materialized, with the Iron Man franchise having been produced locally and the forthcoming Thor movie shot in L.A. save for some scenes that were done in New Mexico.
