Cannons to Blast the El Rey: Alt-electro-pop band Cannons recently released new single “Purple Sun” from forthcoming album Fever Dream, and it’ll be great to hear that new material live at the El Rey on Tuesday. Madi Sipes & the Painted Blue and Somme also perform.

“We’re so excited to kick off the new year with a new song from our upcoming full length album Fever Dream,” Cannons’ Michelle Joy said in a statement. “‘Purple Sun’ is a song that transports you into a warm lighthearted world where reality and dreamworld intertwine, sparking the desire to love and enjoy the moment fearlessly.”

Of the single, a press release reads: “Laced with CANNONS’ signature sound and the feeling of a warm island breeze, the track transports listeners as Michelle Joy sings: Baby I’m just having fun, underneath the purple sun, cus I like me when I’m with you.

Meanwhile, we featured Cannons in a recent “The Best Gig I Ever Saw,” in which Joy said of a Bjork show: “For a moment, I had escaped my constant day to day life and was transported into a visual and sonic dreamscape that only could have been envisioned and brought to life by someone like Björk. The bar for concerts was set so high that night and remains in the stars with Bjork at the time being!”

On Tuesday, though, it’s all about Cannons.

Cannons to Blast the El Rey: The event takes place at 8:30 p.m. on Tuesday, March 1 at the El Rey.
