41-Year-Old Woman Dies in Pedestrian Accident on West Buckeye Road

PHOENIX, AZ (September 28, 2022) – Early Monday morning, Candice Russell was pronounced dead after a fatal crash on South 9th Avenue.

The incident occurred around 4:45 a.m., near the intersection of West Buckeye Road and South 9th Avenue.

Following preliminary investigations, officers say Russell was waving down a car to ask them to contact 911. Russell and the stopped vehicle driver were exchanging information when the driver of another passing vehicle swerved to avoid striking the stopped car.

The second driver then struck the stopped vehicle, pushing it into Russell. Paramedics arrived and transported 41-year-old Russell to a nearby hospital where she later succumbed to her injuries.

Crews closed off the surrounding area for a brief time during cleanup and preliminary duties.

At this time, an active investigation to determine more information is still currently underway. Once available, further details will be provided.
