CBD is widely popular among people all over the world because of its therapeutic properties. The health benefits of CBD range from the treatment of anxiety to the treatment of Alzheimer’s disease. Recent studies are also saying that they have the ability to reduce the growth of cancer cells and help in the treatment of cancer.

CBD oil also acts as a sleeping aid and helps in the treatment of insomnia. The Food and Drug Administration recently approved the use of Epidiolex, a drug that contains CBD extract, for the treatment of Lennox-Gastaut Syndrome and Dravet Syndrome, the two severe forms of epilepsy.

CBD products are everywhere. You can buy them in a variety of forms, including topical products, vapes, gummies, capsules, pills, sublingual tinctures, etc. But still many people are hesitant to use CBD oil and its products. They have serious doubts about the legality of CBD and they fear that CBD will make them fail in a drug test. Keep on reading the article to find out whether CBD will make you fail a drug test.

Will CBD Show Up In The Drug Test?

Most people fear that if they use CBD, it will show up in a drug test. Most of the companies do a drug test for cannabis before hiring an employee. But these drug tests will only look for the presence of THC and THC metabolites. CBD is a chemical compound, and when you consume it your body will metabolize it. Therefore it can be detected. But most of the drug tests are not designed for detecting the presence of CBD in the blood or any other compounds present in cannabis.

An average drug test is designed for finding the presence of THC in the body and the chemical structure of CBD is slightly different from that of THC, even though both of them have the same number of carbon, hydrogen, and oxygen atoms. Therefore, it is highly unlikely that CBD will show up in a drug test. But some hemp-based CBD products contain a trace amount of CBD.

Will The Small Amount Of THC In CBD Oil Fail You A Drug Test?

Different drug tests use different detection thresholds to find out the presence of THC in the body. A hair test is used for catching chronic substance use. Therefore, the amount of THC in the CBD product you use is only less than 0.3 % and you are not using it in high doses, it probably won’t show up in the drug test. Only a few CBD products are regulated. So you wouldn’t know what exactly is present in a CBD product.

The detection thresholds are lower in a urine test and oral fluid test. The presence of THC can be detected depending on a few parameters including the amount of CBD consumed, how often you consume CBD products, and the body composition. But still, if the THC content in the product is less than 0.3 %, it is highly unlikely that it will show up in a regular drug test.

Is There A Drug Test For Detecting The Presence Of CBD?

An average drug test only looks for the presence of THC in the body. Therefore, very specific tests are required to detect the presence of CBD. The company might need to hire certain drug testing agencies to test for additional substances. This would cost the company an additional charge to cover the expenses. Since CBD won’t impair the user’s ability to perform their job functions, most of the companies do not bother to do a CBD testing and waste their money.

Is It Legal To Use CBD?

The legality of CBD in the United States is in a complicated situation. The Farm Bill of 2018 legalized the use of hemp-derived CBD products that contain less than 0.3 % of THC all across the country. The Farm Bill removed CBD from the list of controlled substances. But the CBD products derived from marijuana is still illegal.

The use of CBD products with an amount of THC less than 0.3 % is not illegal. If the amount of THC is greater than 0.3 %, that product is still illegal in the United States. So if you do not want to fail in a drug test and lose your job, make sure that you were using a product that has only 0.3 percent of THC or no THC at all.

Most of the companies have specific drug policies at their workplaces that prevent the employees to use CBD products even for medical use. There is no law that requires employers to accommodate employees that use products that contain CBD. Since the use of hemp-derived CBD is legal, companies are obligated to accommodate employees that use the medical CBD products by making an exception to their drug policies.
