As COVID-19 positive cases continue to rise in California, Governor Gavin Newsom on Monday called for the closure of several operations, including fitness centers and churches, in 30 counties. Los Angeles County is among those, with the closures in effect for at least three days.

Additional closures in these 30 counties consist of malls and personal care businesses, such as barbershops, hair salons, nail salons and tattoo shops.

On a statewide level, Newsom called for closures of indoor operations in restaurants, wineries, movie theaters, family entertainment and card rooms.

“As a consequence in increase of positivity rate, an increase in hospitalizations and ICUs… today we are announcing additional statewide actions as it relates to our stay-at-home order,” Newsom said.

As of Monday, Los Angeles has seen a total of 133,549 positive COVID-19 cases and 3,809 deaths. Over the last seven days, the death rate has dropped by 20 percent, while hospitalizations have increased by 24 percent.
