Cali Vibes Take Over Long Beach: The Marley Brothers (Ziggy, Stephen, Damian, Ky, Mani & Julian), Wu-Tang Clan, Sublime with Rome, Sean Paul, Shaggy, Long Beach Dub Allstars and Bumpin’ Uglies are some of the highlights of the Cali Vibes Festival, taking place in Long Beach this weekend.

According to the press release, in addition to the main stage delights, “The BoomYard Stage, powered by Delicious Vinyl Island, has been added and will resemble the iconic outdoor Los Angeles pop-up party for a full sound system experience. Each artist is set to provide their own unique contribution to a soundtrack of Jamaican music. It will showcase performances by notable artists such as Marlon Asher, Walshy Fire, Jesse Royal, Mr. Vegas, Yaadcore, and a new wave of innovative future roots and Afrobeat artists such as Silent Addy, Naomi Cowan, Blvk H3ro, Zac Jones, Runkus, Teejay, Tessellated, Projexx, selectors such as Jazzy T and DJ Delano from Renaissance, Mysta Crooks, Blaq Pages, and more of LA’s local Caribbean talent.”

Speaking to this writer for Music Connection back in 2019, Sean Paul talked about the best career advice he’s ever been given.

“One was from my mom and one from a friend in Jamaica,” he said. “They both said the same thing—art comes from your heart, but the people judge it. When people don’t like it, it can be crushing to the artist who has put his mind, heart and soul into the piece. If people disrespect your efforts, it can be crushing. It really prepared me and helped me to last this long because there have been lulls in my career and times when it would seemingly be, to a younger audience, like my time was over. That advice has always helped me to put my head back into gear, be humble, and just work hard at what I’m doing. You have to have thick skin in this business. Don’t have feelings when it comes to what people think.”

The whole festival, blending reggae, rap and punk, promises to be pretty spectacular.

Cali Vibes Take Over Long Beach: The event takes place all weekend on Friday, February 4 to Sunday, February 6 at Marina Green Park, Long Beach. All info at calivibesfest.com.
