Cal State LA Dowtown Graduate

Beginning October 1, individuals can submit applications for the following programs:

Bachelor of Arts in Psychology

According to the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics, employment of clinical, counseling, and school psychologists is projected to grow due to the demand for services. Psychologists experienced an increase in demand due to the toll of the COVID-19 pandemic on many individuals’ mental health. The Bachelor of Arts in Psychology Program prepares students for advanced study and those who may already be working in related fields.

Bachelor of Arts in Communication

Communication significantly impacts several very important areas of an organization including employee engagement, customer satisfaction, and public perceptions. The Bachelor of Arts in Communication program, with an option in Organizational Communication, is designed for individuals and working professionals with an interest in obtaining a degree in a wide and growing field. The broad nature of the curriculum also makes it applicable to students seeking advancement in any career.

Bachelor of Science in Business Administration

Career options for business majors are, by far, the most popular field of study among undergraduates. The Bachelor of Science in Business Administration Program prepares students for globalization; a growing economy; a complex tax and regulatory environment; data and market research; and evaluation of marketing strategies.

Fully Employed MBA

Corporate recruiters project robust hiring demand for business school graduates post-COVID. The Fully Employed MBA Program allows working executives to earn their degree in 16 months. It allows working executives and professionals to build upon their experience, enhance their management, leadership, analytic, and communication skills in an increasingly global economy.

Master of Public Health

The Master of Public Health Program comes at a time of growing demand for public health professionals in the U.S. Designed for both experienced public health professionals and individuals just beginning their careers, the program’s curriculum includes a unique focus on urban health, which not only sets it apart from other offerings in the area, but also provides students with the skills necessary to serve diverse, urban communities where health equity remains a vexing issue.

Online and In-Person Career Development Programs

Instructor-led online and in-person career development programs at Cal State LA Downtown are designed to propel adult learners into new careers, or increase their skill sets and value in their current positions. In addition, individuals who have been laid off due to poor economic conditions, company closure, or mass layoff, may be eligible to receive free career development training. Visit program webpages for more information:

Healthcare Revenue Cycle Administration

Reflecting experiences in all aspects of the hospital revenue cycle, this certificate program focuses on payment variance identification and resolution. A top-performing student will receive a paid internship position with Cedars-Sinai, creating a potential pathway to full-time employment.

Medical Billing and Coding

The fields of medical records and health information technology provide skilled professionals with exciting career opportunities in hospitals, physicians’ offices, retirement homes, and government facilities.

Pharmacy Technician

Increased demand for prescription medications will lead to more demand for pharmaceutical services. A PTCB Recognized Education/Training Program™, this instructor-led online program prepares students for the PTCB exam. Employers prefer, and many require, their pharmacy technicians to be PTCB Certified Pharmacy Technicians.

Paralegal Studies

In the last decade, many law firms have replaced lawyers with paralegals on their staff to reduce costs, which has increased the demand for paralegals. Cal State LA’s Paralegal Studies Certificate Program has been American Bar Association-approved since 1978.

Project Management

According to a recent report from the Project Management Institute (PMI), there’s such a drastic shortage of Project Managers, that on an annual basis, employers will need to fill nearly 2.2 million new project-oriented roles each year through 2027. Upon completion of this certificate program, those who qualify will be better prepared to take the Certified Associate in Project Management (CAPM®) or Project Management Professional (PMP®) exams offered by PMI.

Society for Human Resource Management (SHRM)

Offered in partnership with the Society for Human Resource Management (SHRM), the SHRM Professional Program prepares individuals for both the SHRM-CP and SHRM-SCP exams. This instructor-led online program is also for those individuals who need recertification credits required by SHRM, and for those who simply want to improve their HR skills and continue their professional development. Cal State LA is a SHRM Top 20 Education Partner.
