Cal Poly Pomona this week moved to eliminate the fine arts program from its College of Environmental Design. Provost Marten denBoer has recommended the move, but decision's not yet final, according to the San Bernardino Sun.

Although the school is under pressure from state budget cuts, campus officials said a lackluster review of the fine arts program (students are unhappy, “the curricula is dated”) is what helped seal the deal. In an email obtained by LA Weekly, a school official adds that former Los Angeles city Councilman Mike Woo, now the dean of environmental design, sided with the provost on the issue.

The 79-student program could fight for its life as a review process that will include Woo, the provost and office of the chancellor, gets under way, the Sun reports. Fine arts has at least until spring to live on.
