Seems to us driving while elderly (DWE) is almost as dangerous as some of the other behind-the-wheel influences out there.

But a Glendale man in his 60s told cops it wasn't age that plopped his Cadillac atop a neighbor's roof over the weekend:

The crash was reported at 6 p.m. Saturday in the 400 block of Audraine Dr., according to a Glendale police statement sent to the Weekly:

… A driver lost control of the vehicle due to reported brake failure.

That, at least, is the story for why the old man backed out of his driveway and ended up on a neighbor's shingles. Gives new meaning to the term “top gear.” Was that a top-of-the-line Cadillac, by the way?

Anywhoo, an also-elderly neighbor was inside the casa but neither of the old folks sustained injuries, cops said.

A crane was used by the Glendale Fire Department and helpers from the L.A. Fire Department to lift the vehicle off the roof.

It's not clear in police believe the driver's story; they say the matter is still under investigation.
