57-Year-Old Man Killed in Multi-Vehicle Crash near Avalon Boulevard in Willowbrook

WILLOWBROOK, CA (March 16, 2021) – Thursday afternoon on March 4, 57-year-old Byron Banks, was killed in a 6-vehicle collision on El Segundo Boulevard.

The incident took place around 5:10 p.m., at the intersection of El Segundo and Avalon Boulevard. Shortly after, dispatchers arrived.

Per reports, Byron was driving a 2003 Honda southbound on Avalon Boulevard at an unsafe speed. There, he collided with the back of a 2015 Toyota that was waiting at the intersection for a traffic light.

The Honda then hit the right side of a 2004 Infiniti. It continued through the intersection, drove over a raised median and struck another vehicle, CHP officials said.

The Toyota was pushed forward by the impact and struck a 2004 Nissan in the intersection. It then continued into a gas station parking lot where it struck an unoccupied vehicle.

Banks was taken to the hospital, where he died as a result of his injury. In addition, the Toyota’s driver suffered minor injuries.

Authorities have not yet released the identities of the other occupants involved. However, an active investigation to determine further details remains ongoing.

Once available, more details will be provided.
