The first thing we noticed when we walked around the Pasadena Convention Center for DesignerCon this year is that there was a lot of Star Wars. From Free Humanity's posters to Super7's Super Shogun Stormtrooper, there was no question that George Lucas' films have had a huge impact on artists. It made perfect sense, then, that the convention would come complete with an exhibit from Bwana Spoons entitled Spoonful of Star Wars.

Featuring 100 pieces based on the Kenner's Star Wars figures that were released alongside Episodes IV, V and VI of the series, Spoonful of Star Wars is from the collection of Dov Kelemer and Sarah Jo Marks, who run DKE Toys. Kelemer and Marks previously curated The Vader Project, where 100 artists revamped replicas of Darth Vader's helmet.

Spoonful of Star Wars is a nice complement to The Vader Project, one that highlights the influence of the original Star Wars toys. Most of the paintings are roughly comparable in size to a postcard with the characters often placed in humorous settings. Check out a selection of the collection on the following pages.
