Burning Man is L.A.'s favorite party.

And everyone knows a burner is a stinky hippie who washes with bong water and raves to 1999 break-beat trance.

Wait, what?

The latest Burning Man “Afterburn Report” of attendee demographics was released this week. And guess what?

Burners are surprisingly cosmopolitan:

The latest survey data shows that the biggest group of people on the playa, 40 percent worth, are at least college grads, with another one in four holding graduate degrees.

One in four burners … is a Republican. Yep, you heard that right. And while that might seem like a relatively low number in America's red-state-blue-state equilibrium, only about one in three ID's as a Democrat, with another one in three going “independent.”

About 400 vehicle occupants were randomly chosen to participate in the survey.

About 81 percent said they were eligible to vote, and more than 70 percent said they voted always or often.

And … mirroring other trends in festival attendance (coughs: EDC, Coachella), about 45 percent of respondents said they were Burning Man “virgins.”

We're sure cherries were popped and minds were blown.
