Dennis RomeroThe Bullwinkle statue that's been on the Sunset Strip near the Chateau Marmont for 52 years has been removed, the folks at Vintage Los Angeles, who broke the news, told the Weekly today.
The removal via crane appeared to have happened early this morning. Alison Martino of Vintage Los Angeles cites sources who say …
… the statue had a crack too expensive for its local caretakers to repair. Another source tells them that DreamWorks took the thing and will likely restore it and keep it permanently.
The nearby store PoshPetCare says on its Facebook page:
The moose is loose! Say bye to Rocky and Bullwinkle. They'll be restored and moved to dreamworks!

The L.A. Conservency and the Sunset Strip Association were apparently unaware of what happened early today.

[Added at 5:14 p.m.]: Then there's this rumor: DreamWorks wants to use the statue to help promote the 2014 release of Mr. Peabody & Sherman from — yes — Bullwinkle Studios. Hmm.
