Gabrielle CanonNot enough cash for Coachella this year? Too burnt out from sandstorms and empty-Daft Punk promises to try round two? Perhaps you don't care about any of that and just enjoy drinking outside. Whatever your reason, Brokechella might be what you are looking for.
Now in its third year, this festival happens this Saturday, in downtown, and it's still cheap. Ten bucks will grant you entry, and the event will feature sets from acts including Mystery Skulls, TeamSupreme, and Body Parts.
“We were really able to go through these submissions and pick out so many different genres,” says Negin Singh, executive director of cARTel Collaborative Arts LA, the organization that puts on the event. “Post-punk to dance synth to really great Irish rock — really, there's something for everybody.”

In addition to live music, festival-goers can expect “all-encompassing” art installations from local visual artists, face painting, and cheap food and drinks.

The event is 21+ and Singh recommends you take a cab — beer and wine will be only $3 from 4pm-6pm, and $4 for the rest of the night.

“Come to Brokechella if you are looking for a reason to connect and feel good about living in LA,” Signh says, adding that venders, musicians, and artists were hand-picked L.A. cityfolk.
Those in attendance will also have the chance to win a $1,000 grant from The Awesome Foundation whose stated mission is “Forwarding the interest of Awesome in the universe, $1,000 at a time.” As a former recipient of the award, Brokechella creators have teamed up with the foundation to enable festival-goers to write any awesome ideas on giant post-its at the event for a chance to win the next grant.
