Since 2011, Brokechella — now rechristened the Broke L.A. Music & Arts Festival — has provided a cheaper, closer alternative to a certain pricey festival/fashion parade out in the desert. Now in its sixth year, Broke L.A. returns this Saturday, April 23, to Imperial Arts Studios in DTLA, with more than 50 musical acts on five stages, plus some great food, vendors and even a pop-up film festival. (Full disclosure: L.A. Weekly is a sponsoring partner of the event.)

Broke L.A.'s music lineup features all sorts of excellent local bands and artists, including “transcendental pop” purveyors Vinyl Williams, punk shoegazers Tennis System, indie-pop duo The Fontaines and twangy psych-rockers The Fuzzy Crystals. There's also a stacked lineup of hip-hop, R&B and future bass on the Brownies & Lemonade stage, including appearances by Softest Hard, Cam and China, and Kosha Dillz, and a dance-music stage presented by Shifty Rhythms, featuring such up-and-coming talents as post-dubstep producer Different Sleep and Deadmau5 signee BlackGummy. Oh and there's a comedy stage, too. (See flier below for full lineup.)

Broke L.A. also announced its food and vendor lineup today. The festival's “Foodie Row” will include Guelaguetza's traditional Oaxacan cuisine, Korean fusion from Rice Balls of Fire and dessert from Coolhaus, the Beignet Truck and the Pudding Truck among others, while the “Marketplace” will feature booths by LSTN, Makerwear, Popsikle Truck, Regs and Normies, Shywear, Infinite Expression, the Moveable Boutique, Purps, Indie Jams and Eco Yardscapes.

Also returning to Broke L.A. this year is Bark L.A., formerly known as Puppychella. In partnership with NoKill Los Angeles, Bark L.A. will offer on-site adoption services as well as a chance for dog owners to bring their pooches to the festival between 3 and 7 p.m. Dog lovers who register their pup in advance can even enjoy in-and-out privileges, so they can drop their best friend off at home and return to the festival after dark.

This year marks Broke L.A.'s debut of Broke Film, A No-Budget Film Festival Pop-Up, as well as the first-time appearance of MicheMobil, a '70s VW van serving micheladas and featuring music by Late Night Laggers. There will also be an “interactive dog house” (seriously, that's what the press release says) sponsored by Adult Swim's Mr. Pickles and more interactive art exhibits by Broke LAndscape and the Whimsical Bureau of Missed Connections.

To buy tickets (just $20, or $25 at the door), register your dog for Bark L.A. and find out more about the festival, visit brokelafest.com. See you Saturday!
