It used to be about the music, man! Now it's all about critical success, adoring fans across the globe, appearing on The Tonight Show and being named to Variety's 2010 “10 Comics to Watch” list! I mean, hearing tunes like “Sex With Ducks” and “Pregnant Women are Smug” at the UCB just had this magical quality of serene knowingness. Because those haughty bitches are smug, and the few dozen of us gathered there damn well knew it! You think the Improv is a step up? I think it's a step out! The capacity is, like, 200 people! This is dangerous territory, Garfunkel & Oates, one that numerous musical duos before you haven't made it through un-split. And we all know what happens to the musical ex's who are left behind, discarded like so many gum-clogged kazoos . . . But I understand. Chalk it up to creative differences. Or family priorities. Even rehab. Just know that every time I hear “Why Isn't There More Fucking on this Island? (A Song for Lost),” I'll think fondly of you. The Improv, 8162 Melrose Ave., W. Hlywd.; Thurs., Aug. 19, 8 p.m.; $15. (323) 651-2583.

Thu., Aug. 19, 8 p.m., 2010
