Two Women Pronounced Dead after Suspected DUI Accident near Highway 41

FRESNO, CA (May 24, 2023) – Early Monday morning, Brianna Britten and Kathy Esqueda were killed in a hit-and-run crash on Ashlan Avenue.

The incident happened around 1:00 a.m., near Highway 41 along Ashlan Avenue and Highway 41 on April 24th.

According to reports, officials tried to pull over a driver. However, the driver failed to stop and proceeded to drive before crashing into a tent with sleeping occupants.

Paramedics arrived and rushed the victims to a nearby hospital with serious injuries. There, one of the women, 30-year-old Britten, succumbed to her injuries. A few days later, the second woman, 61-year-old Esqueda, also died at the hospital from her injuries.

Police officials said the suspect, 39-year-old Erica Jones, tried to flee from the scene but was later found and charged with felony DUI and murder. At this time, Fresno police authorities will release additional information as soon as they become available.
