Updated after the jump with the Dodgers saying half-price beer days are canceled.

For a long time alcohol and sports fans have been good friends. And for a long time they've combined to wreak havoc at football, baseball and soccer games.

Some are blaming this witches' brew for the ugly beating of San Francisco Giants fan Brian Stow at the Dodgers' home opener March 31. And well, the Dodgers organization has had the bad timing of scheduling several “throwback” half-price food and alcohol days at this spring and summer.

County Supervisor Mike Antonovich says it's the wrong move:

To restore the public trust, tighter controls — not half-price sales on alcohol — need to be implemented. After the tragic beating of Bryan Stow, the Dodgers need to have a zero-tolerance policy on those under the influence in and outside the stadium.

Others have suggested an earlier closing time for stadium beer taps and bars.

The half-price throwback days were scheduled for April 21, May 4, June 15, June 22, August 10 and August 31.

In a statement, Antonovich's office called the Dodger organization's reaction to the beating, which put Stow in a coma, “a day-late and a dollar-short.”

Update: A team spokesman told the weekly that doing away with the half-price alcohol days “remains under consideration.”

Update No. 2: The Dodgers announced Wednesday afternoon that its half-price concession days will not include discounts on beer and alcohol.
