Lily, the young gray whale that has been hanging around Dana Point Harbor this week, has died, according to ABC7 News.

On Wednesday marine biologists and rescuers removed netting that entangled the 35 to 40 foot whale, and she seemed to better. The mammal even moved out to sea. But on Thursday she was back, and she was spotted outside the harbor Friday as well.

Experts originally believed she was old and decrepit, but after getting a closer look they determined she was quite young and likely malnourished.

She reportedly washed ashore near the Harbor about 4 p.m. Friday.
