Julian Cox, Mixologist at Rivera, is popping up this Thursday as the latest participant of Breadbar's Hatchi Mix Series. Cox will be sharing his Tequila in Three Magical Acts menu tonight, July 1st, only from 6 p.m. to close, serving up eight tequila-centric cocktails ($8 each) inspired by the three courses of a meal and the three sequences of a magic act (for the magically-impaired, that would be an introduction, feature and finale).

While Cox is keeping many details of his eight cocktails close to the vest — you know, since it is a magic theme and all — we do know that Act I includes a beet cocktail with goat cheese foam, Act II a Jamon Iberico old-fashioned and Act III a cherries jubilee. Keep in mind that Cox has a total of six additional tequila-based apéritif, entrée and digestif cocktails in mind; but like any good magician, he's just not revealing his secrets. On the food front (because you're going to need something to absorb all that tequila), there's a sous-vide beet salad with goat cheese espuma; roasted new potatoes with brown butter, sage and truffle oil; piquillo peppers with Mezcal and balsamic reduction; and, cherries jubilee. In addition, BreadBar will be serving pizzas, etc. from its new menus.

BreadBar's recurring Hatchi Mix series, hosted by The Tasting Kitchen's Devon Espinosa, features a new mixologist the first Thursday of every month. Next on the line-up? Matt Biancaniello from Roosevelt Hotel's Library Bar, who will pair special cocktails with a small plates menu by Mo-Chica's Ricardo Zarate on August 5.

Hatchi Mix at BreadBar: 10250 Santa Monica Boulevard R-2, Los Angeles; (310) 277-3770.
