Is Breadbar bringing its Guest Chef Series to the streets or bringing street food to its guests? Either way, the Century City restaurant will morph its once popular Hatchi Guest Chef Series into the Hatchi Truck Stop.

Held the last Thursday of the month, the new series kicks off March 31st with guest chefs Ryan Harkins and Matthew Chernus of heavy metal-themed burger truck Grill 'Em All. For one night only, the winners of Food Network's The Great Food Truck Race will step behind the Breadbar stoves to cook eight small plates that cost $8 each, which is more than most of their burgers. (“Hatchi” in Japanese means the number “8.”)

A harbinger of the pop-up restaurant craze, the Guest Chef series has, of late, lost some of its luster as dozens of high-profile supper clubs crowd the restaurant scene. The food truck craze shows no signs of slowing, but with a $32 minimum purchase required per person, will fans of street meat show up for a more expensive version of their curbside favorites?
