Bicyclist Killed in Fatal Accident on Thomas Road

PHOENIX, AZ (November 12, 2021) – Friday night, 42-year-old Brandy Heideman was fatally struck by a vehicle in a collision on 32nd Street.

Emergency dispatchers responded to the scene around 8:30 p.m., at the intersection of 32nd Street and Thomas Road.

First responders say the female bicyclist was doing circles in the center turn lane while waiting for traffic to clear. She then entered the eastbound lanes where she was struck by an eastbound Jeep.

Due to the impact of the collision, Heideman suffered life-threatening injuries before she was pronounced dead at the scene.

In addition, a second bicyclist was struck. However, they left their bicycle at the scene and left before authorities arrived.

Investigators described the Jeep driver as a 25-year-old man. Reports indicate that he stayed at the scene and cooperated with the investigation. He was not impaired at the time.

Officers say the driver was unable to avoid striking the cyclists.
