Update: Shorts was declared dead at the California Hospital Medical Center just before 6 a.m. on Christmas Day. The L.A. County coroner's office told the Los Angeles Times that “Shorts died from injuries he suffered during the shooting.”

A Black male who took a round of bullets while waiting in 3:45 p.m. traffic on November 18 — in the chest, stomach and arms — has been identified as 24-year-old Brandon Shorts.

The identity of the shooter remains a mystery.

According to the Los Angeles Times, Shorts was sitting in the driver's seat near West 71st Street and South Western Avenue in Chesterfield Square (between Inglewood and South Central) when the shooter ran up to his vehicle and began unloading his weapon.

Detective Jim Yoshida, of the LAPD's Criminal Gang and Homicide Division, told the Times that “at this time, detectives are investigating the incident as a gang-related crime.”

However, the investigation is ongoing. Anyone with additional information about the crime is urged to call Detective Dave Ross at (213) 485-1383.
