What happens when the Grinch, the Virgin Mary and Mrs. Claus team up with members of local bands Jew Cocks and Coup Pigeons? Why, the third annual(ish) Holiday Pehrgeant and Open Bar Mitzvah at pehrspace, of course! This isn't your typically boozy holiday-party scene: “Open Bar Mitzvah” means just that — anyone, regardless of tribe, is welcome to take part in cultural festivities, read sacred texts and ceremoniously become a man. Perfect for all you folks who love to say, “I'm pretty much Jewish,” because after this event you can say you've technically been bar mitzvahed. To round out the Christmas pageantry and the fake religious tropes, there will also be the fifth annual Secret Santa Mixtape Swap! Don't bring that CD-R flat circular disc shit — get ancient with it. Break the cassettes out of their cellophane wrappers, or better yet, do the Scotch Tape–over-the-corner trick and black-market a commercial one. Make cover art, include a track list and do whatever you have to in order to make it awesome. Consider it part of your transition into manhood to teach the young ones about tapes, because kids these days don't know about tapes, and that's a shame. Holiday merriment will be performed live by members of Wide Streets, Mountair, Post-Life, In Tents, Manhattan Murder Mystery, Tes Elations and more. L'chaim, motherf*%kers. pehrspace, 325 Glendale Blvd., Historic Filipinotown; Sat., Dec. 28, 8 p.m.-mid.; free with donated canned goods or toy. (213) 483-7347, pehrspace.org.
