Two of the more popular ridesharing apps, Uber and Lyft, will no longer require guests or drivers to wear a mask on rides.

Both Lyft and Uber noted that a mask may still be worn if a rider or driver chooses to, and doing so is still recommended by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC).

“Many people still feel safer wearing a mask because of personal or family health situations, so please be respectful of their preferences,” Uber said in its updated safety page. “And if you ever feel uncomfortable, you can always cancel the trip.”

Lyft went a step further, saying the front seats are no longer required to be vacant and windows no longer need to remain open during rides.

“We know that everyone has different comfort levels, and anyone who wants to continue wearing a mask is encouraged to do so,” Lyft said in its updated safety guidelines.

After a Florida judge struck down the CDC’s attempt to extend the mask mandate for travel on Monday, several airlines, airports, railways and rideshares were allowed to lift the COVID-19 based safety regulation.

Multiple airlines have already announced that their mask requirements have been lifted, same with airports such as LAX.

L.A. Metro, Amtrak, Metrolink and Orange County buses will no longer require masks.
