One of my great regrets of last year was not flying to Brooklyn see Japanese experimental rhythm band (or however you want to describe them these days) the Boredoms perform with 77 drummers on 7/7/07. My friends who were there speak of the event with a mystical twinkle in their eye, as though they've been somewhere that I couldn't possibly understand. (I raved about them earlier this year in anticipation of their March, 2008 show at the Fonda.)

So it is with great joy that the news arrives: The band will converge at the La Brea Tar Pits on August 8, and at precisely 8:08 p.m. will perform 88Boadrum, a composition featuring 88 drummers. Here's a glimpse of the band with 77 drummers:

Now imagine eleven more.

Tickets to the event, which is sponsored by Nike, are free, but you have to physically have one to gain entry. You can grab them at the L.A. County Museum of Art, Amoeba Records on Sunset and brownpapertickets.com.
