David Beckham gets boos the old-fashioned way — he earns them. While some local L.A. Galaxy fans may go overboard in their heckling of the star midfielder for wanting to get out of his L.A. contract and play for AC Milan, Saturday Beckham gave everyone cause for alarm when he applied a dangerous, “studs up” leg tackle to Seattle Sounders midfielder Peter Vagenas.

Beckham was immediately given a red card and sent off the field at Carson's Home Depot Center. The Galaxy lost the game, 2-0. Beckham later denied any malice toward Vagenas, who was sent tumbling to the ground during the play, but the ref and fans saw it otherwise.

“Beckham was booed off the field but he insists there was no maliciousness involved,” CNN reports.

L.A. Times sports scribe Grahame L. Jones reported, incidentally, spotting a Seattle fan sign reading, “Drove 1151 Miles to Boo Beckham.”
