Just when you thought the only relevant meat in Culver City was the Let's Be Frank hot dog cart, Side Street Projects blows into town with its Bookmeat silent auction at the Brick Building. Auction proceeds benefit Side Street Projects' tireless ongoing arts-education programs throughout L.A. County, but the difference between this and those other silent auctions is that the items up for bid are books from the personal collections of artists, curators and writers like the Weekly's own Tom Christie and Doug Harvey; Outpost for Art curator Julie Deamer; conceptualists Martin Kersels and Jeffrey Vallance; and lowercase composer Steve Roden, among many others. Hidden in each book is a brief message from the donor, revealing what each book means to them. This is something really special.
