Updated after the jump with couple arrested. First posted at 10:58 a.m. on Wednesday, Dec. 8.

This murder mystery started when a hotel maid found a backpack in a room with part of a body in it. And under the bed were more parts wrapped in a blanket, police said.

The discovery was made Nov. 29 at the Continental Hotel, a single-room occupancy haunt for the otherwise homeless, at 802 E. Seventh St. on Skid Row, according to the LAPD.

On Wednesday police named two suspects wanted for killing and slicing up poor Herbert Tracy White, 49:

Police allege Edward Garcia Jr., 36, and his wife, Melissa Hope Garcia, 25, of Pennsylvania did the deed and that the motive was robbery.

Detectives believe White met the pair in Hollywood.

Kelle Baitz an LAPD detective based at its Newton Division, said the victim was found in five parts, with his limbs having been removed. A knife was found at the scene.

Anyone with information about the suspects was asked to call police at 323-847-6547.

Update: Associated Press reports the pair has been arrested Friday afternoon in an abandoned building in Hollywood. A U.S. Marshal's fugitive task force found the two suspects surrounded by trash and “waste,” according to the AP.
