Updated with the bottom with the victim's gender, age.

A body was discovered steps from the newly minted L.A. offices of Google in Venice, authorities said.

The find on Main Street between Sunset and Rose avenues was reported to the LAPD by paramedics about 5:55 p.m., Officer Bruce Borihanh told the Weekly tonight.

He told us there were indications the body might have belonged to …

… a homeless person. But the age and gender of the deceased were initially unknown. Borihanh said the body was on the street (a photo, below, indicates it might be on a sidewalk).

The location would put the discovery near Google's new L.A. offices, which occupy the Frank Gehry-designed binocular building on Main.

In fact some Twitter users indicated as much. Twitter user Andrew Karl posted this photo:

User @CaliforniaDean stated:

Incident on Main @ Rose is homeless person down. Not hit by car, just down. LAFD doing CPR for 15 min. Doesn't look good.

And:

Not a good week for @Google in Venice. Windows broken, twice, at their Main & Sunset bldg – now a death in front of office. 🙁

Borihanh indicated that the county coroner's office was in charge of the investigation.

[Update at 6:20 p.m. Friday]: The coroner's office tells us that the victim was a 63-year-old man. They couldn't release his name because his immediately family has not yet been notified of his death. The cause of his death was still under investigation.
