The body of a West Hollywood man who jumped off Venice Pier early on the morning of July 5 washed up on a Santa Monica beach over the weekend, authorities said.

Thirty-one-year-old Brian Patrick Dunn was reportedly drunk when he dove into cold water and high surf after 2 a.m. following the 4th of July holiday. His body was discovered about 8:20 a.m. Sunday near the 2300 block of Ocean Front Walk, county lifeguard Terry Hearst said. The body was identified as Dunn's later in the day.

A fisherman discovered the body in an area north of Venice and south of Santa Monica Pier. “It takes about seven days for the body to come afloat,'' Hearst said.

When Dunn went missing the U.S. Coast Guard launched a search effort but acknowledged strong currents created by a strong swell could have carried him away. Others reportedly jumped with Dunn that morning but made it to shore okay.
