You didn't think the Bob Dylan cake on the cover was Photoshopped, did you?

Once we decided our cover for this issue would feature a delicious cake commemorating Dylan's 70th birthday, it was a no-brainer that the baker would be the one and only mastermind of the Straight Outta Chocolate website, the multitalented Kate Steffens.

You might know Steffens from her popular Lady Kate and Stone Sound System DJ night (every Thursday at Footsie's Bar), but the L.A. native also has gained many admirers in town and around the world — even music nerd institution Mojo magazine featured her — as the baker of rock & roll cakes bearing eminently edible images of everyone from Ian Curtis to Jimi Hendrix to Dr. Dre. (She also baked a Bukowski cake — rock & roll is an attitude, after all.)

Check out images of Steffens' work, recipes and more on her website, straightouttachocolate.wordpress.com.

And, yes, in case you were wondering, we did eat the cake after the shoot. It was Bob-tastic!
