Two Musso & Frank Grill documentaries debut this week in Hollywood, DoorDash is offering free Godmother subs and it’s steak night at Lunetta — here’s what’s popping up this week.
Sunday, October 13
Maple Block Meat celebrates their third annual BlocktoberFest with All You Can Eat BBQ for $45 per person in their Biergarten featuring four craft breweries (Boulevard Brewing, Ommegang, Boomtown Brewery and Shiner Beer), music, pumpkin decorating and a bounce house for the kids, cornhole, games and a raffle. The ticket gets you all-you-can-eat barbecue, tacos and grilled meats and unlimited craft beer tastings from a selection of 14 to 16 beers.
Octubrefest, Smorgasburg’s annual October celebration of Los Angeles’ best sausages and beer returns this Sunday. They’ll be replacing traditional brats with chorizo, moronga, and longganisa, and steins with mega-micheladas and festive beers that celebrate the “Hecho in L.A.” vibe. So long polkas and clogs, hello cumbias and huaraches! Pop-up vendors include The Chori-Man from San Pedro, Kuya Lord’s Filipino Longganisa out of the Spoon & Pork tent, and I Love Micheladas’ popular mango and cucumber micheladas in addition to some new festive beer options like Horchata Stout and La Morena Dark Kolsch from Border X Brewing.

Monday, October 14
Death and Co. round two takes places at Thunderbolt from 8 p.m. to midnight and will be providing guests with a sneak preview of some of the cocktails that will be offered at the new location to set roots in the Arts District in November. There will be a menu of nine drinks in total, featuring spirits from the Beam Suntory portfolio, with national beverage director Tyson Buhler, and Death & Co L.A.’s head bartender, Matthew Belanger, behind the stick. As the Death & Co experience goes, they will be hosting on a first come, first served basis.
Two documentaries chronicling the personal lives and storied careers of Musso & Frank’s legendary bartender Ruben Rueda and waiter Sergio Gonzalez — both of whom passed away earlier this year — will make their world debut on Monday at the ArcLight Cinema in Hollywood. The screening of the two new documentaries, both written, produced and directed by filmmaker Tina Whatcott Echeverria, will be open to the public.

The screening of both documentaries will be preceded by a Q & A session moderated by TV personality Marc Summers (Nickelodeon’s Double Dare, Food Network’s Dinner: Impossible) and featuring Tina Whatcott Echeverria and her husband, Mark Echeverria, fourth-generation co-owner, COO and proprietor of Musso & Frank.
Also on hand will be Leo Rueda, the son of Ruben Rueda and now a server and a bookkeeper at Musso & Frank; and Alex Gallardo, the son-in-law of Sergio Gonzalez and also now a server at Musso & Frank Grill.

From Tuesday through Sunday, any customer who spends at least $1 when they order from Bay Cities on DoorDash can get a free small Godmother sandwich while supplies last. The deal is only available on DoorDash for delivery on the famous Italian sub featuring Genoa salami, mortadella cappacola, ham and prosciutto between freshly baked crusty bread with “the works” (mayo, mustard, lettuce, tomato, pickles, onion, Italian dressing).

Chef Raphael Lunetta and his team are featuring Steak House at Lunetta with the help of artisan butcher Jered Standing, who’s bringing juicy cuts of meat from his shop on Melrose. It will be a night to celebrate the great steak houses of the past, where guests will choose their cut of meats including; New York, boneless rib-eye and tomahawk, from Standing Butchery as well as porterhouse to be prepared on their wood-burning grill. Other choices will include Bearnaise, peppercorn, or house-made steak sauce and traditional sides of poached asparagus with hollandaise, baked fingerling potatoes, grilled tomato salad, and a Caesar salad made table-side, appetizers include steak tartar, albacore crudo, and shrimp cocktail.
Thursday, October 17
The first “Taste of the Santa Ynez Valley: The First Course in Food, Wine, and Experiences,” a four-day food, wine and experiential event, will take place in the six towns of the “SYV”, Thursday through Sunday, October 17-20.
Events include three different cooking classes (like a “Cutting, Casing and Curing” class at Buellton’s Industrial Eats); a wine and cheese seminar; an AVA vs. AVA showdown; multiple vineyard, winery and craft beer dinners; a “FrancFest”; various Sideways-themed events as part of the film’s 15th anniversary; the “foots-on” Solvang Grape Stomp; and more, such as a morning horseback-breakfast ride, yoga-in-the-vineyard sessions, cycling events.
