An elderly blind woman was robbed of her gold chain, and Paris Hilton was nowhere in sight.

Cops today said the noontime mugging happened on Sunday, July 24 on First Street between Los Angeles and San Pedro streets — the heart of Little Tokyo's shopping district, only a block or so from LAPD headquarters.

The 68-year-old woman taking a stroll and pushing a cart actually fought back but, according to a department statement:

The crook grabs her around the throat and chokes her as she struggles to understand what is happening to her.

Lt. Paul Vernon says, “She fights back, but the suspect gets her gold chain and jade pendant, worth about $100.”

A man came to the woman's rescue, but the heartless mugger ran away.

Cops say it was pretty brazen not only because the victim was so vulnerable but because street robberies in Little Tokyo are rare.

The suspect was wearing a white shirt and a baseball cap worn backwards, cop say. He was also carrying a small backpack.

Anyone who might know who it is was asked to call detectives at 213-972-1251.
