Adam Rapp’s 2001 romance unfolds in a rented room in NYC’s Canal Street in the late 1990s, where a young woman named Froggy (Jade Dornfeld), dressed in woolen cap and layers of sweats, emerges from within a closet, at the beckoning of her roommate and support system, Baylis (Johnny Clark). Despite the minor plot and dialect quibbles, Ron Klier directs an absorbing production, laden with attention to the sweet relationship in a bitter world. Elephant Theatre Lab, 6324 Santa Monica Blvd., Hollywood; Thurs.-Sat., 8 p.m.; through September 19. (323) 860-4283. A VS. Theatre Company production.

Thursdays-Saturdays, 8 p.m. Starts: Aug. 14. Continues through Oct. 3, 2009
