Word from the Hotel Cafe website is that Billy Corgan will be debuting his new 19-year-old drummer, whom he picked from an open-call audition process, at the Hotel Cafe next Monday, August 31. The percussionist, named Mike Byrne, will perform his first show with the Corgan as part of the Smashing Pumpkins' lead singer's new outfit, Spirits in the Sky.

“We counted over 1,000 submissions,” said Corgan last week, “and what made Mike stand out was he just seemed to have that X-factor that all the great drummers have, a stunning blend of power, speed and grace. I'm excited to work with him moving forward – he truly deserves this opportunity. I believe in my heart he will push me to be a better musician.”

In case you were under the illusion that you might be able to get into this gig, you're wrong. It's sold out. But there's always Craigslist if you've got $400.
