You'd think Billy Corgan would be exhausted by now — dodging paparazzi with his new girl Jessica Simpson, spending countless hours in the studio tinkering with the upcoming Pumpkins album Teargarden by Kaleidyscope, oh, and let's not forget running his God blog. We get it, the man's busy. But then comes yesterday's news from Pumpkins studio insider/producer and @laweekly Twitter buddy @studiodog that he and Corgan are also launching a new record label. Kerry “Studio Dog” Brown direct messaged us the announcement Wednesday night:

Billy and I are happy to announce the birth of our record label! The name of the label will be made public soon. (We need to make sure that we have the name rights before we can announce it.)

We are very excited to be collaborating with amazing artists that have made a huge impact on the underground music world… From the psychedelic garage rock of the 60's and the punk rock insanity of the 70's and 80's to the post-punk Pleiadian power-pop that is now.

Songs slated for release on Brown and Corgan's new label include those by The Germs, The Electric Prunes, Fancy Space People, and one-hit wonders The Strawberry Alarm Clock. And while one of those bands used to be punk as fuck (no, we're not giving you a hint), the others are a whole different trip. We tried to imagine what the “right name” for this mashup of a label might end up being but then realized it was 3 a.m. and decided to consult the crystal ball called our pillow instead. Here's a suggestion for the name of your new label, Billy: Free Download.

You're welcome.
