Male Cyclist Fatally Struck in DUI Accident on South Rita Road

TUCSON, AZ (March 2, 2022) – Tuesday, an unidentified bicyclist was fatally struck in a DUI collision on Rita Road.

Emergency crews responded to the deadly accident in the 8200 block of South Rita Road.

According to authorities, the bicyclist was heading south on the east side of Rita Road. Meanwhile, a Jeep was heading north on Rita Road.

For DUI related reasons, the Jeep driver veered off the roadway and onto the sidewalk, eventually striking the bicyclist. Due to the impact, the bicyclist suffered life-threatening injuries before they were later pronounced dead.

In addition, paramedics transported the driver of the white 2015 Jeep Grand Cherokee to a hospital with life-threatening injuries.

According to witnesses, the Jeep displayed negligent driving behavior prior to the accident. The driver of the Jeep, a 22-year-old man, remained at the hospital in critical condition.

Following preliminary investigations, crews determined that the driver was also impaired at the time of the incident. At this time, an active investigation into the deadly collision remains underway.
