Man Hospitalized after Bicycle Collision on Union Avenue near 19th Street

BAKERSFIELD, CA (August 24, 2021) – Tuesday, a man riding a bicycle was involved in a collision on Union Avenue in East Bakersfield.

The collision occurred around 4:36 p.m., at the intersection of Union Avenue and 19th Street.

According to preliminary findings, the bicyclist crossed the street heading westbound against a red light into the path of the vehicle driving southbound through a green light.

As a result, the vehicle and cyclist collided at the intersection. Paramedics responded and took the cyclist with major injuries to a nearby hospital for treatment.

Meanwhile, the female driver was unharmed. Officers say she remained at the scene, and cooperated with authorities.

Police did not release any additional information at this time. However, the cause of the accident and factors involved remain under investigation.
