The Jet Rag $1 Sale has been happening every Sunday for years, since back in the days when the Melrose-adjacent vintage superstore was located across the street on La Brea. In recent years, there have been improvements — soft drinks and water for sale, tents to block out the blazing sun — but the basic concept has remained the same: dozens of shoppers picking through (and often fighting amongst themselves over) vintage miscellany, piled directly on the pavement. And every item still sells for a single dollar. The sale is always a crapshoot no matter when you arrive, but if you get there early you might be able to get your hands on one of the highly coveted laundry bins in which to store your stash. The key is patience and perseverance: If you don’t find anything right away, keep digging, and sit tight; new bundles are dumped out every hour or so. 825 N. La Brea Ave., Mid-City.
