If you're shopping for a vintage car that will turn heads yet cost no more than a deadly dull, forgettable used car, SportsCar L.A. is a rare find. Owner Roy Steele has tucked his tiny, clean, indoor car lot behind a gas station in a bleak area just off the 405 in Lawndale. Here Steele and his crew buy, sell and consign classic American muscle cars and British and European sports cars. One recent week, they offered for sale a 1987 Maserati Biturbo ($8,750), a 1967 Lincoln Continental ($21,500), a non-restored 1959 Triumph TR3 ($6,950), a cherry TR3 Roadster ($15,750) and two 1968 Ford Mustangs. Juan Cruz, the master upholsterer, performs artistic magic on the vintage interiors, making Sportscar L.A. among the few places in the region that can actually match the old leather and painstakingly re-create custom cushions no longer available anywhere. 15614 Inglewood Ave., Lawndale, 90260.
