Oyster House Saloon is only half a mile or so from Ventura Boulevard's hip gastropubs, but this venerable seafood restaurant has a bar that can't be beat. Its sea-blue façade is more Pismo Beach than San Fernando Valley, and the wood-paneled interior is so unintentionally retro that you'll feel out of time. If you stop by not too long after opening time (11 a.m.), you'll almost certainly find some old-timers chatting up the bartenders. But Oyster House gets pretty busy on late Saturday afternoons, when the bands arrive; there is live music nightly inside the bar. (Those who prefer something slightly quieter can lounge on the patio.) A tip: Be sure to try the peach-infused vodka. 12446 Moorpark St., Studio City. (818) 761-8686, oysterhousesaloon.com.
