If you're reading the L.A. Weekly, you're probably a fan of Bill Maher. The left-leaning, proudly pot-smoking comedian tapes his hourlong HBO show, Real Time With Bill Maher, right here in L.A., at CBS Television City in the Fairfax District. And if you're willing to wait in line and be bossed around by a bunch of pimply-faced wannabe comedians, you can attend a taping for free. It's almost like watching at home: The panel discussion occurs at the back of the stage, so you'll probably end up viewing it on the monitors anyway. (Try to sit on the right-hand side as you face the stage, as it's closer to the majority of the action.) Maher tends to take a few weeks off at a time, so call ahead to make sure he's taping and to reserve your seat. With the election a month away, he'll have plenty of material for a while to come. CBS Television City, 7800 Beverly Blvd., Fairfax District. (323) 575-4321, hbo.com/real-time-with-bill-maher/inside/extras/article/tickets.html.
