You'll be faced with a lot of choices at Tonga Hut. To drink, do you want a Suffering Bastard or a Drooling Bastard? Should you pick Tom Jones or Fu Manchu on the jukebox? This North Hollywood tiki bar has been in business since 1958, but even as retro tiki revivals come and go, it manages to keep up with the times. The Tonga Hut has more complicated drinks with kooky names than you ever thought existed, but if you somehow thumb through the menu and aren't satisfied, some of the bartenders are willing to mix you up their own original creations. (They also occasionally bring in award-winning guest bartenders.) Tonga Hut hosts frequent events, including live bands and art shows — we once saw a Gilligan's Island–themed art event here. It seemed appropriate. 12808 Victory Blvd., N. Hlywd. (818) 769-0708, tongahut.com.
