A popular stomping ground for television and film studios looking to outfit entire casts in military wear, Burbank's Supply Sergeant has a wide array of surplus clothing, selling everything from American uniforms from the Vietnam War to foreign military gear from Germany, France and the former U.S.S.R. It's the holidays, however, that send the troops marching in on Victory Boulevard, looking for everything from SWAT uniforms to tactical gear. “Halloween in our store is like Christmas at Sears,” says manager Steven Wilcox. “I can make you anywhere from a private to a general.” In business since 1948, the shop keeps prices low by purchasing directly from vendors at surplus shows and passing on the savings to customers. It also carries popular work brands like Carhartt and Dickies, plus camping supplies, flight suits, hats and patches. Or how about an ammo box? They're not just for bullets anymore; the Supply Sergeant does a brisk business selling the fireproof boxes to people planning to use them to store special items and important papers. 503 N.
