Even before Robertson Boulevard topped Rodeo Drive as the most star-studded street in the universe, it was a steady style stop for babes with big bucks. The Ivy’s $30 salads aside, celebs come to the street for stores like Intermix and Curve, whose well-edited selections of seasonally chic pieces are consistently covetable, and have been since well before the area was shutterbug central. Unfortunately, coveting is about all most of us unfamous peasants can do. But are there any deals to be found on Robertson, ever? The answer is yes. Well, yes for those who can afford department-store price tags, at least. If you’re living month-to-month or on a tween-teeny weekly allowance, splurge on a coffee at Starbucks on the corner and watch the paparazzi/celebutards dance around each other all day.

Best Boutique for Bratz: Kira Plastinina

The pink and peppy new boutique of 15-year-old Russian richie Kira Plastinina definitely offers the lowest-priced frocks on the block. Sparkly mini-dresses, hooded pleather jackets in purple and shiny black, and for fall, sumptuous sweaters in powder pink and heather gray, all of it ranging from about $30 to $90. The style statements are all pretty youthful (think Paris Hilton in high school), but the quality is definitely a notch above Forever 21 and Wet Seal. Tees and leggings in trendy shades and animal prints are steals, priced for (and obviously made for) 20-somethings.

Best Keeping Up With the Rich Bitches: Kitson Outlet

The most famous store on Robertson, Kitson, obviously isn’t a place for the frugal to flock — it’s all high-end brands or overpriced stuff you can get much better deals on elsewhere. The Kitson Outlet down the street is another story. Shockingly, the discount space hasn’t received a lot of press, but we think it has something to do with the fact that it’s supposed to be only “temporary.” Still, the raw garage-sale setup has been there for almost a year now, and we hear it ain’t going anywhere for a while. They get new stuff daily, including merch from their children’s store and men’s-only shop, though female fashionistas will definitely find the best bargains. Mark-offs of 50 percent on L.A.M.B., Michael Kors and even some Vivienne Westwood stuff are common. Admittedly, a lot of it is bottom-of-the-barrel, couldn’t-sell-in-the-store rejects and the best stuff still isn’t that cheap — half off of a $500 dress is still $250, after all — but there are some glamorous goodies to be had. At the very least, the discount space offers a good chuckle with its bonanza of banished vanity lines and famous-peep project flops: Paris Hilton’s perfume, Rachel Zoe’s style book and Lauren Conrad’s tops are priced to expel.

Best Slacker Streetwear: WESC

The fiercest fashion for the fellas can be found at WESC (which stands for “We Are the Superlative Conspiracy” … whatever that means). Jason Lee is the mascot or something, but don’t expect white-trashy Earl looks here. Sophisticated slacker streetwear describes these duds, and while they ain’t cheap, they aren’t outrageous either. Tees in the $20-$30 range, pants $80-$90, and even women’s wear under a C-note. The bargain isn’t so much the actual price, but the impeccable quality of each piece and the clean, cool-but-not-trendy designs, which should make anything bought here last longer than Lindsay Lohan’s career.

144 S. Robertson Blvd., L.A. (310) 385-9315.

Best Makeup Samples: M.A.C Cosmetics

For those of us more concerned with looking like a star than looking at one, there’s M.A.C Cosmetics. (We actually did spend all our allowance on M.A.C lipsticks when we were teens!) These days the tempestuously hued lipsticks go for 14 bucks a pop, but you can get one for free at the Robertson flagship if you save the packaging from any used M.A.C product (six old pieces for one new lip or eye look). The company’s “Back to M.A.C” program is at M.A.C’s department-store counters too, but the Robertson store has the biggest selection, and the best makeup artists, who (if they’re not too busy) will even give you an über-glam makeup lesson and application — with samples — at no charge.

Best Tee-Totaler: American Apparel

American Apparel’s selection is as expansive as its list of locations, but even for a store that is all but ubiquitous, opening a Robertson post was a risk (the rent must be ridiculous). Or was it? With Robertson’s more recognizable regulars seen almost daily on the gossip blogs and TV, the area now attracts more tourists than ever, and the Bermuda shorts–clad families hafta leave with something, right? Cheapest thing in the store? A headband for $8. Best deal? Liquidy metallic leggings that look exactly like D&G’s designer tights for a fraction of the cost ($40).
