L.A. is famous for its hidden hillside stairs. The best stair walk downtown follows the architectural curves of the Los Angeles Philharmonic's iconic home, Walt Disney Concert Hall, via an exterior aerial pathway. Enter from Grand Avenue (just to the right of Patina's entrance) or from the west side of the garden terrace, to follow the curving trail designed by architect Frank Gehry. Vignettes will surprise, from the secluded small amphitheater to spots on high where it's just landmark façade, steel, glass and sky. Up top, get a pigeon's eye view of Grand Avenue, City Hall and the soon-to-come Broad Museum. Open most days, the public stairs and garden welcome intrepid walkers, busloads of tourists and starchitecture fans. Don't be surprised if you happen upon a bride and groom in formal attire — the steel-clad walls and concrete staircases have become one of L.A.'s favorite wedding photo backdrops. 111 S.
